The future is looking up!

The future of food production is not about wide open pastures and reliance on steady stable climate, it's about climate independent agriculture, it's about farms that not only produce fresh fruits and veggies but also clean energy, fish, biopolymers, medicines, vaccines and cellular agriculture all while recycling every nutrient possible.

These farms recycle almost all the water and nutrients within the system so that they can grow food in deserts or northern climates which are the areas that are energy rich with renewable energy resources.

Farms for the Anthropocene,

"The Age of Humans"

Climate Independent Agriculture

Today humanity, and YOU need to make some decisions on how we want the next 1000 years to look like. We've got our minds made up that we want the world to be in a better position for our children and their children's children. We have the means, capital and capabilities to achieve a better future.

We're not waiting for governments and politicians to take action, we're building the future we want to live in.

Time to turn words into action

The urgent need to increase the pace of CCS deployment

Without CCS, scenarios suggest it becomes very difficult and expensive to reduce CO2 emissions sufficiently fast to achieve global warming well below 2°C, stably, by 2100. This conclusion is in line with the Energy Transition Committee (ETC 2018) and McKinsey (2020). According to Peters and Sognnæs (2019), the median CCS deployment by 2050 ranges from 6 Gt CO2/year to 13 Gt CO2/year for scenarios that are Paris-compliant.

In 2020, the global capture and storage capacity of projects currently operating, at 26 CCUS facilities around the globe, stood at around 40 Mt CO2/year (GCCSI 2020a)

The IPCC (2014; 2018) highlighted the central role that technologies that remove CO2 from the atmosphere will need to play in meeting ambitious climate targets.

CO2 removal technologies are key and CCUS is proven and well understood. The separation of CO2 from gas in streams and its use for EOR goes back many years. Anthropogenic CO2 was first injected underground for storage in commercial-scale operations in 1996.

If all CCS projects around the world under consideration or planning in late 2020 were to come online over the next decade or so, the global CO2 capture capacity will be 110–130 Mt CO2/year (IEA 2020b; GCCSI 2020a), still far below the target of 650 Mt CO2/year captured and stored by 2030.

Our integration between advanced technologies such as clean tech, biotech, agritech, robotics and automation, and strong collaboration with local partners, enables an Orbital Farm to create skilled jobs, fresh food and local agriculture. Special focus for us are areas with limitations such as arid land, extreme weather and distressed regions of the world.

Each one of our commercial scale farms can provide enough protein to take care of between 450,000 and 4.5 million people EVERY DAY.

Orbital Farm is a Circular Project Development company which is developing 200 large scale closed loop farms around the world in the next 10 years.

We are building capacity to meet the UN SDG goal #2 of ending world hunger by 2030.We are also building capacity for UN SDG goal #3 of Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages by producing vaccines for 10B people.

We integrate technologies that are involved in closed loop production and management of food, water, and fuel for long term space missions. We do this today by developing and financing large industrial scale, profitable projects here on earth to produce food in places where it would otherwise not be possible. Our projects begin by utilizing waste streams from our industry business partners such as CO2, food waste, wastewater, methane, even waste heat or energy. We leverage these waste streams with biotechnology which is the beginning of the mini ecosystem. We then grow fish in large recirculating tanks and flow that water into large greenhouses. The fish provide the nutrients for the plants to thrive and grow without the need for pesticides or fossil fuel based fertilizers. The water is recycled in the system and we harvest the fish and fruits and vegetables.

More simply we're able to transform CO2 and electricity directly to food, clean water and fertilizer. Our vertical integration both increases our profitability while solving critical challenges humanity faces today. Our flexible architecture of processes and technologies allows us to tailor combinations to the need of a project site. We directly address climate change by strategically locating our farms near to industrial areas where we’re able to leverage efficient logistics and be close to large communities. Additionally we have the ability of using hundreds of thousands of tons per year of CO2 in a single project to make food to provide for millions of people every day. Finally, we're developing an impact structure to develop hundreds of projects over the next 15-20 years. These long term stable manufacturing facilities are structured to for institutional investors, pension funds and family offices.

Our mission is to grow food and medicine anywhere on earth today, then on the moon and Mars tomorrow.

What types of Foods?

Plants

We will aim to grow all types of foods. As we look to build farms around the world, we can't just grow lettuce and basil. We must develop systems which can grow all types of crops, from rice to corn and even medicinal and nutraceutical plants. We need to develop climate independent growing systems to preserve all types of foods. Not all will begin today but each project we develop will have a uniqueness from the area of which it can contribute to the global knowledge pool.

Seafood

Fish play an important role in our ecosystems as they are one of the most efficient converters of feed into food with healthy proteins and useful oils. In addition to a source of protein, the fish provide the nitrogen our plants require in the greenhouses.

Vegan Proteins

We will produce proteins in many forms, from Salmon and Trout to shrimp, to single cell proteins which can be blended into protein rich breads, pastas, or even using high moisture extrusion to be made into burgers and sausages. We will produce animal and fish feed products which will help to save the oceans from the fishmeal and fishing industries which aid in collapsing ocean ecosystems.

Cellular Agriculture

We will produce the nutrients which will enable the cellular agriculture industry to thrive, scale and grow.

Offtake Agreements:

We expect to be able to provide our food customers, grocery chains and restaurant groups with consistent pricing over 20 year periods. This consistency of price and quality along with flexibility of product based on our customers' demand enable us to develop long lasting partnerships with our clients. If you purchase foods for your company, or are responsible for sourcing or importing foods, we would like to chat. If you can provide us with purchase agreements we can usually use this to assist in financing the development of a project and give our customer a strategic advantage over their local competitors.

The Universal Food Project:

A global collaboration for the production of food for earth and space

One of the most incredible things humanity has ever done is collaborate on building the most expensive object in history called the International Space Station (ISS). Cold War nations came together, with countries all over the world, to build this. Food and space are the two great things that connect us all. Ever since the beginning of man, we’ve looked up and made stories about the moon and the stars. Food is the bond that brings everyone together, no matter where you’re from. We’re trying to make an international project here on Earth, to solve the challenge of producing food in a closed loop agriculture system. And by combining food and space, we can truly change the world.

We're bringing together space agencies, universities, and technology companies of the world in the next "International Space Station" type of project called The Universal Food Project.

If you're interested in contributing, joining, helping or simply want to let us know that you support this idea, we need you to raise your hand and let us know. The ISS was put together with 40,000 letters of support for the collaboration. We need to hit or exceed that number to gain the support for this endeavour.

The Universal Protection of Life Support Systems:

A multilateral legal agreement to protect life support systems on earth and in space

Terrestrially, Orbital Farm projects must be developed all over the world, including developed and developing nations. This includes areas where investors might be cautious to invest. Foreign investment requires risk reduction and long term predictability. Risk reduction is what has enabled significant foreign direct investment in the mining, power and oil and gas sectors through the years. To address the SDG goals with sustainable solutions and advanced technologies, there is a requirement to protect the IP, technologies, investors, and assets wherever we are, on earth and in Space.

Once development of a facility is completed and providing food and medicine to a population (on or off earth) people’s lives become reliant on this supply chain maintaining uninterrupted operation. Should these facilities be attacked or disabled by advisories, terrorism, cyber threats, or other nations this would immediately put these populations lives at risk. These facilities become critical to supporting the lives of many people and should be classified as life support systems to humanity. We aim to identify these projects as critical infrastructure to be protected through an internationally recognized agreement. This agreement must extend to anywhere humans live, all countries around the world but also into space, the Moon, Mars and beyond. Life support systems should become protected assets just as outlined in the many international agreements (like article 54 of the Geneva Convention: which prohibits the destruction of infrastructure basic to life, such as foodstuffs, electricity, drinking water, etc.) already in place which protect civilian life, health and access to fresh food and water. In space this also includes access to breathable air and oxygen. Life support systems must not be targets of conflict and war. Astronauts, taikonauts and cosmonauts are society's shining examples of humanity, and their lives must never become pawns in war or politics. Just as every life in space is valuable, so too are the billions of lives here on earth.

Armed conflict in outer space would have devastating consequences for all. Space plays a critical roles in societal needs, therefore it is essential to clarify applicable rules to prevent conflict, and instill confidence within the investment community.

While space conflict seems like a distant worry to be a concern for the next generation and unfathomable today, we must recognize that within the next 3.5 to 4 years we will have the two largest nations citizens competing for scarce resources on the moon without agreement on safety zone definitions. This must be addressed, we can develop alignment and agreement between all parties that regardless of the situation, human life must not be jeopardized or leveraged.

LIFE MATTERS

The Universal Health Project: Vaccine factories for 10 Billion

A global collaboration to produce vaccines and medicines for everyone, everywhere.

Viruses don’t respect borders, communities, companies or trade agreements. Our world is so intertwined that every single infected human puts us all at risk. We must work together to eradicate virus threats as a global community. Today we must deal with COVID-19 as it infects billions of people around the world but also prepare for the next pandemic that will travel the earth again.

We have an opportunity, need and obligation to provide access to vaccines and medicines to every corner of the planet. We believe, as does the United Nations, that each human deserves the right to a healthy life and well being. The world has made major progress on SDG goal #3 by improving the health of millions of people and their life expectancy, however this progress has stalled and is not happening fast enough. Orbital Farm is setting out on a mission to develop the capability for humanity to produce vaccines and medicines for a world of 10 billion people. By using biotechnology and plant-based vaccine development tools we’re able to provide the capacity for rapid vaccine production in pandemic moments to produce consistent, reliable and safe vaccines and antibodies all around the world.

By using plant-based systems we can provide dual use of the facilities. In normal times we can grow food and other biosimilar pharmaceuticals in our greenhouses, vertical farms and bioreactors. This keeps the staff employed and ready at a moments notice should a pandemic arise. It also builds a business model which can enable the ability to finance the capital costs required to develop massive capacity. With 200 facilities around the world we can provide enough volume to vaccinate 10 billion people. Our facilities contain biotechnology and bioreactors onsite which allows additional types of vaccines and medicines to be produced. Greenhouses with controlled environments which enable us to grow different crops and vaccines depending on the need as it arises. Our facilities will adhere to pharmaceutical standards and offer a consistent production platform to safely and rapidly jump to the action. With a distributed model of production, the vaccines and medicines are already distributed globally and can be rapidly provided to nations around the world that otherwise would be much lower on the priority list of being provided access to these life saving tools.

Orbital Farm is partnering with the world leading pharmaceutical companies to licence their technologies to manufacture and sell their products and bring about a revolutionary shift in how vaccines and medicine is delivered to the world.

With 200 factories around the world producing 50M doses per year we’re able to supply doses for 10 billion people and build resilience for the next pandemic.
